Your next chapter

Yes, you can.

Build a new path.
Start with the fundamentals.

Your experience is a starting point. You can build from it.

Starting out, changing careers or returning to work? In your 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s or beyond, there is a place to begin.

  1. 01
    Understand the basics

Understand what a system does and why.

  2. 02
    Practice with support

Practice a task and get feedback.

  3. 03
    Show what you can do

Explain your decisions and show the result.

Build confidence one demonstrated skill at a time.

Where would you like to begin?

A practical starting point

Start with a system you already use.

Learn how a building keeps a room comfortable. Identify the equipment, follow what it does and explain it in your own words.

Explore the fundamentals

A practical starting point

Connect your experience to a new skill.

Bring the problem solving, teamwork or technical knowledge you already have. Choose one skill related to building systems to practice next.

Find your starting point

A practical starting point

Connect the equipment, controls and response.

Trace a signal from a sensor to a control action. Explain the expected response and what evidence would support your answer.

Start from the experience you bring

Where are you today?

I teach students, people changing careers, technical professionals and experienced practitioners. Your starting level depends on what you already understand and what you want to learn next.

01 / STARTING OR CHANGING CAREERS

Build a foundation.

You may be entering the workforce, changing careers later in life or returning after time away. Begin with how buildings work, common terminology, drawings and the people responsible for each system.

Explore the fundamentals
02 / BRINGING TECHNICAL EXPERIENCE

Connect what you know.

Bring your experience in engineering, architecture, construction, information technology or another technical field. Develop the controls, commissioning or systems knowledge needed for your next responsibility.

03 / READY FOR GREATER RESPONSIBILITY

Strengthen your judgment.

Work through questions about complex systems, project decisions, client conversations or leadership challenges. Practice explaining your reasoning and helping others learn.

Discuss leadership development

How we work together

A clear goal.
Practice. Useful feedback.

We identify a skill you want to develop, choose relevant instruction and work through an example. I review your reasoning with you and help define what to practice next.

What progress can look like

Explain a system using a drawing. Identify missing information in a test record. Follow a signal from a sensor to the screen. Communicate a finding clearly. The task depends on your goals and starting level.

Sessions can be in person or live online. We agree the scope, schedule and fee before you commit.

Do I need an engineering background to start?

You can begin learning the fundamentals from many backgrounds. We choose a starting point that fits your experience. The qualifications and authorization needed to perform a particular job still depend on that role.

Before you commit

Know what you are working toward.

A useful training proposal should make these details clear. Bring your goal, and we can work through the scope together.

  1. Your goal: the task you want to understand, practice or perform.
  2. Your starting point: the knowledge and preparation the training assumes.
  3. Your experience: the lessons, exercises, format and time commitment.
  4. Your feedback: what work is reviewed, by whom and what follow-up is included.
  5. Your investment: the fee, included services and agreed terms before you book.
